Cycle one!

Ok here in room 6, we like to work hard, we like to play hard and we like to get busy and form like 150 people creating the Michael Jackson moonwalk, whilst playing instruments and stepping to the rhythm in unison on a football field!

Now THAT'S multitasking! (ask a 'sixer', if you're confused by this point ;)

In cycle one our class is on the inquiry journey to find out about 'Natural Disasters and Survival'...

Are you ready to jump into action in a split second?

Today room 6 took a casual approach to an emergency earthquake drill, some enjoyed getting prepared, others worked out that staying seated and waiting, provides mild amusement.....but ultimately a face full of falling roof... sigh, heh heh.

The Sixers have split into four groups based on their interest level and are continuing to research different elements of the overarching topic.
  • Natural disasters and their societal effect
  • Basic knowledge and skills in any emergency
  • Practical tool and supplies when out in the wilderness
  • First aid, natural remedies and poisons
Keeping dialogue up at home will ensure a solid foundation of knowledge!

Oh, *P.S.
at the moment some students are forgetting their P.E uniform, swimming gear and lunches! Please, give them a nudge in the morning to remember to be prepared for the day!
Forced perspective Mr. D. says, "It's pretty tricky holding up these guys ;)"

*Bonus 25 points for the first one to come and tell me what 'P.S' stands for.... ;)

Farewell our NEW friends... :(...

Kia ora Whanau!

Recently we've had the grace of having some Korean students living the Howick Intermediate dream with us!

Rio, Sandra and Johan had been a part of Room 6 from it's inception, they've provided us with some new insight to life in Korea, tricks of the hand and some parting verse in song!

It's been really cool having them a solid part of room six and we wish them safe travels back home and for all their future endeavors.

Here's a little parting excerpt from our Korean whanau...

Home Learning and Beyond!

Morning team!

Coming home tonight for the big kids to sign is our class mantra on homefun!

Please read along with each other, so we're all on the same page with our expectations for continuing greatness this year!

I do believe in a balance in life, so once done enjoy hanging out with family and friends!

Once understood, sign and bring it back in where the contract will live in the home learning book!
This treaty is for everynight!

Room 6 breaking in the NEW YEAR!

Hey there and welcome!

This is your one stop shop for keeping up with Howick Intermediate's famed room 6!

In Room 6 we value each other and live by some basic core values... (or cheats to life) ;)

RESPECT: By respecting ourselves and our own unique view on this earth, we lend an understanding to respecting each other, our environment and opening new ideas about the future!

RESPONSIBILITY: Being aware and understanding every little action has consequences regardless of size of action! (Butterfly effect anyone??!!!)

HONESTY: Even though it may INITIALLY be the hardest thing to do, being honest about who you are, why a scenario happened and finding solutions along the way, is all in the name of learning about life...

CARING: Being aware of others and their feelings begins with caring about your-SELF! Be proud of what you take ownership in, who you are and what you do! Whether it be your work, hobbies, passions, loves, school & home life or your greater community! OWN it, CARE about it!!!

A fantastic start to the new year here in Room 6, some old friends and new faces have graced us and started off an energetic summer , and boy it's getting hot!

This blog will be updated regularly, so keep up with whats going on in your little persons (some, not so little now) life. Add comments and ideas! Here's where Room 6 lives online!
